Context streaming:JPEG still images and MJPEG video streaming.
IR Illumination
ALPR illumination: integrated pulsed LED illuminator with wavelength options 740 nm / 850 nm / 940 nm / 590 nm (selection depends on configuration). Context night mode: 940 nm illuminator supports B/W night context capture. Optional auxiliary cameras: available modules include auxiliary wheel imaging and wide-angle street-view cameras with built-in IR illumination.
Dynamic Range
Dual-exposure option (firmware feature): SharpZ3 OS supports dual exposure, where the two LPR sensors capture low-exposure and high-exposure images so the system can select the best image for extraction—improving capture rate across varied plate designs. Note: In SharpZ3 OS 13.6.1, dual exposure and stereoscopy can’t be enabled at the same time.
Artificial Intelligence
Edge-based machine learning: powered by AutoVu MLC (machine-learning engine) with ultra-low reading latency and deep neural network (DNN) capabilities for improved accuracy and reduced misreads. 3 optical sensors: the SharpZ3 camera uses three optical sensors for richer context and more robust plate detection in complex environments. Compute architecture (base unit): Intel Atom E3950 processor per two ALPR ports, plus dedicated Intel Myriad™ X machine-learning co-processors. Scalable platform: supports up to 4 high-definition ALPR cameras on the same base unit; modular chassis designed to evolve with optional plug-in modules.
Analytics
Built-in vehicle analytics: vehicle type, vehicle colour, and plate origin recognition analytics (to go beyond plate-only identification). Vehicle-based enhancements (firmware feature): OS updates add options such as more granular vehicle classifications (up to 24), plus attributes like vehicle orientation information and vehicle accessory detection (where supported by the OS/version). Operational workflows: commonly paired with Genetec Patroller to compare reads against hotlists/permits and trigger real-time operator alerts (system workflow capability).
Cybersecurity
Platform-led security: cybersecurity controls and policies are typically enforced through the wider Genetec Security Center / Patroller deployment (user permissions, operational controls, and system hardening). Hardening guidance: Genetec publishes cybersecurity resources and hardening guidance to support secure configuration, updates, and enterprise deployment practices.
Casing
Sealing / ingress protection: IEC 60529 IPx6, IPx7, and IP6x (dust protection). Impact rating: IK08 (IEC 62252). Camera size / weight: 2.20(h) × 5.12(w) × 4.10(d) in (5.6 × 13 × 10.4 cm); 1.9 lb (0.86 kg); available in black or white. Operating temperature: Camera -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F); storage -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F). Base unit -40°C to 65°C (-40°F to 149°F) with high-temp auto-shutoff protection (4-camera modules may require optional cooling pack for highest temps). Vehicle/field robustness: system certification includes vibration (IEC 60068-2-64) and shock (IEC 60068-2-27), plus automotive EMC compliance references.
Warranty
Standard warranty: 1 year (AutoVu Sharp family cameras and processing unit). Extended warranty (optional): +4 years added coverage (extended option). Advanced replacement / on-site repair: 90 days from product purchase (where applicable). In-warranty return & repair: included (per Genetec warranty terms/summary).
Genetec AutoVu SharpZ3: Edge-Based Mobile ALPR for High-Performance Patrols
The Genetec AutoVu SharpZ3 is a mobile ALPR (number plate recognition) platform built for patrol fleets that need fast, accurate reads and richer vehicle intelligence in real time. It’s powered by the AutoVu MLC™ machine-learning engine with ultra-low reading latency, and uses three optical sensors to better place plate reads into vehicle context while providing built-in analytics such as vehicle type, vehicle colour, and plate origin. Each SharpZ3 ALPR camera pairs a dedicated monochrome global-shutter ALPR sensor (1456×1088 at up to 30 fps) with a colour global-shutter context sensor (1456×1088 at up to 30 fps) that supports black-and-white night mode with 940 nm illumination, plus pulsed LED illumination options (740/850/940/590 nm) to help maintain capture reliability across day/night conditions; typical mobile capture range is up to 19 m with retro-reflective plates, with 8/12/16/25 mm ALPR lens options to suit different mounting positions and roadway geometries. For scalability, the modular base unit can support up to four high-definition ALPR cameras on the same platform, using an Intel Atom E3950 per two ALPR ports with Intel Myriad™ X machine-learning co-processors for edge performance, plus practical fleet I/O (trigger inputs, relay outputs, dual Gigabit Ethernet) and 12/24 VDC vehicle power support; optional modules add capabilities like a PoE+ expansion module (to power/connect up to four PoE devices) and an advanced navigation module with inertial sensors and automotive dead-reckoning for improved positioning where GPS alone can struggle.
