What is edge storage?
Traditional surveillance relies on a continuous link between cameras and a central server or cloud platform. If that link fails, recording stops.
Edge storage writes video to high-end, durable memory cards inside the camera or to a small, on-site recording device. These function separately from the central system. Operators can access footage whenever required or send it back to the video management system (VMS)—the software platform for handling recorded and live video—once network connectivity is restored. This setup improves the system’s reliability and efficiency.
