Key Features of Nx Witness Gen 6
- Open, cross-platform video management — Nx Witness Gen 6 is designed to discover, view, record and manage IP cameras in real time, giving customers a flexible VMS that works across modern surveillance environments rather than locking them into a single camera brand.
- Broad integration capability — The platform is built to integrate with existing cameras, IoT devices and third-party applications, making it easier to unify video, devices and other security technologies in one system.
- Scalable architecture with stronger resilience — Nx Witness supports growth from single-camera systems to enterprise deployments and includes features such as health monitoring, failover, redundancy, and local, cloud or hybrid storage options to improve uptime and data protection.
- Smarter control for operators and administrators — Gen 6 adds features such as Temporary User Access, LDAP Groups, Emails via Nx Cloud, Camera Hotspots, Cloud Bookmark Viewing, and Analytics Object Search via Nx Mobile, helping users manage permissions, move through sites faster and investigate footage more efficiently.
- More advanced automation and enterprise tools — Gen 6 introduces a new Rules Engine for more efficient event handling and easier rule management at scale, while the Enterprise tier adds Unified Notifications, Unified User Management, Unified Site Organization, Nx Connect, Nx Maps and Priority Support for larger multi-site environments.
Nx Witness Pro vs Nx Witness Enterprise
Why choose Nx Witness Pro?
- Ideal for customers who want a powerful VMS with a perpetual licence, giving them long-term ownership with a one-time software investment.
- Includes the core Nx Witness platform plus Gen 6 Pro features such as Temporary User Access, LDAP Groups, Emails via Nx Cloud, Camera Hotspots, Cloud Bookmark Viewing, and Analytics Object Search via Nx Mobile.
- A strong fit for standard commercial security deployments that want reliable video management, efficient operator workflows and room to grow without moving to a subscription model.
Why choose Nx Witness Enterprise?
- Designed for customers who need a subscription-based, cloud-focused platform for larger, more complex or more distributed environments.
- Includes everything in Pro, plus advanced capabilities such as Unified Notifications, Unified User Management, Unified Site Organization, Nx Connect, Nx Maps, and Priority Support.
- Best suited to organisations that need centralised oversight, broader scalability and more advanced multi-site control across their video operations.
Nx Cloud
Remote Access and Cloud Management, Without the Complexity
Nx Cloud is the cloud services layer of the Nx Witness VMS, built on AWS to provide secure remote access and centralised management of Nx Witness sites without network configuration, open ports, or VPNs. Once a site is connected to Nx Cloud, operators can view live and recorded video from any cloud-connected camera in a browser via the Nx Cloud web client, or through Nx Desktop and Nx Mobile on iOS and Android, using a single login. Unlimited sites can connect to one Nx Cloud account, suiting managed service providers and enterprises with dispersed deployments. Administrators grant users access to a connected site with an email address and role-based permissions. Remote connections are proxied through Nx Cloud over TLS, video traffic between servers and clients is encrypted against man-in-the-middle interception, and two-factor authentication protects account access. Nx Cloud acts as a connection mediator — video traffic and credentials are never stored or decrypted by its relay servers, so data sovereignty stays with the customer.
Nx Witness Server
The Intelligent Core of Your Surveillance System
Nx Witness Server is the lightweight media server at the heart of every Nx Witness VMS deployment, handling device discovery, stream management, video recording, storage, and event processing. Nx Witness Server automatically discovers and connects to 99% of IP cameras on the market using ONVIF and native camera SDKs, and supports any RTSP, HTTP, or UDP stream from cameras, drones, DVRs, NVRs, and third-party devices. In Generation 6, each server supports up to 256 cameras, with up to 10 servers per site for a soft-capped total of 2,560 devices. Video can be recorded to local drives, SD cards, NAS, iSCSI, SAN, Veracity Coldstore, or cloud locations, giving organisations control over where their footage is retained. The distributed HIVE architecture means every server continuously synchronises user and configuration data, eliminating single points of failure and enabling automatic camera failover. An IFTTT-style Event Rules Engine allows operators to configure automated responses to system-generated and third-party events. The server is cross-platform — Windows, Linux, Mac, ARM devices, and virtual environments — and is included with all Nx systems, requiring no additional hardware or software licences.
Nx Desktop
Full-Featured Surveillance Control, Right at Your Workstation
Nx Desktop is the primary rich-media client application for the Nx Witness VMS, providing operators with a powerful, flexible, and highly responsive interface for viewing, managing, and configuring their entire surveillance system from a single screen. The application supports simultaneous viewing of up to 64 live video feeds on a single layout on a 64-bit OS, with full compatibility for MJPEG, H.264, and H.265 streaming formats, as well as offline media playback including AVI, MKV, MP4, MOV, and a range of other common video and image formats. Its distinctive Flex GRID interface allows operators to create unlimited customisable and shareable layouts that can integrate live camera feeds, web content, and IoT device data into a single unified view — with Showreel and Video Wall modes available for monitoring centres requiring timed or multi-screen display configurations. Archive investigation is fast and intuitive, with Smart Motion search, time and date filtering, video analytics metadata, and bookmark-based search enabling operators to locate specific footage quickly across an entire year’s worth of recordings. The built-in IFTTT-style Rules Engine allows operators to configure automated system responses triggered by camera events, IoT devices, or external HTTP inputs — without requiring any coding knowledge. Nx Desktop runs on Windows, Ubuntu Linux, and macOS, uses HTTP and SSL for all server communications, and employs adaptive scaling technology to optimise performance and minimise CPU and network usage — making it equally capable on modest workstations as it is on high-powered enterprise hardware.
Nx Witness Mobile
Complete Surveillance Control, From the Palm of Your Hand
Nx Witness Mobile is the low-latency app for Nx Witness VMS, built on the same codebase as Nx Desktop to give operators full control of their surveillance systems from any iOS or Android device. Free to download, the app connects to any Nx system via Nx Cloud, letting operators switch between unlimited sites with a single login. Live view runs through a low-latency media player with live-updating thumbnails, so operators preview any camera feed without opening the full stream. Smart Motion Search lets operators select an area within a camera view and search for motion in that region across live or recorded footage, while advanced object search — introduced in Generation 6 — locates people or vehicles in the app. PTZ cameras are supported with touch controls for pan, tilt, and zoom, and fisheye dewarping provides a linear view for easier review. Soft Triggers let operators fire any configured event from the app, including access control, fire, and building automation integrations. All communications between Nx Witness Mobile and Nx Witness servers use HTTPS and SSL encryption, with support for encrypted video traffic to guard against man-in-the-middle interception — the same security in the field as at the workstation.
